BackSixth Form Berlin Trip
Posted on: 16/03/2025“Last week, we had the incredible opportunity to visit Berlin with history. We had a jam packed three days, helped by the gorgeous weather. On the first day we walked around Berlin, looking at all the well throughout memorials. My highlight of the trip was seeing the Brandenburg Gate at sunset on the second day. The trip really helped put a lot of our lessons into context and I found it really surreal to cross over where the Berlin Wall stood.”
Helena, Year 13
“Going to Berlin was a very fun and interesting experience, both in a historical and social way. From seeing well known famous monuments like the Brandenburg Gate and the TV tower to less well known, but still historically and culturally important locations like the Stasi prison and the Palace of Tears in person was something that made me glad I picked Modern History A Level and made all the 20 mark essays worth it! It was a great time with friends and trying to speak German. I would love to go to Berlin again.”
Theo, Year 12
It was wonderful to see students so engaged in our tour of Berlin, from the very interactive DDR and Adenauer museums to the thought-provoking memorials to the Berlin Wall and Hohenschonhausen prison. It was three very busy and long days, which allowed students to see a lot of the city and deepen their understanding of the Germany Democratic Republic.
Thank you to Mrs Coulson, Mrs Meilak and Mr Holland for giving up their time to accompany us on the trip.
