Interest of Academy Conversion
Across the country many schools are becoming academies and the Government recently stated that they wish all schools to become academies before the end of the current parliament. The governors have begun to explore what this means for Kenilworth School and we want to tell you at this very early stage what we are doing. At our meeting on 24 November 2015 the Governing Body discussed the issue of academy status and how this might affect Kenilworth School and Sixth Form. A working party of governors was set up and they have been gathering relevant information on academy conversion.
At our meeting on 8 March 2016, governors agreed to register our interest in academy conversion with the Department for Education (DfE). This does not commit the school to becoming an academy. However, it does mean that the DfE will provide the school with a named contact who will help the Governing Body access the information needed in order to make an informed decision as to whether applying for academy status is in the best interests of Kenilworth School. Governors will carry out a due diligence exercise so we can understand both the risks and opportunities of academy conversion.
Once this exercise is complete we will carry out a full and open consultation and make available the relevant information to all interested parties including staff, parents, students, local schools, the local authority and the local community, before the Governing Body makes a final decision.
